Upcoming Event - Heritage of Hymns

Second Baptist Church - Springfield, MO
The Messiah Project has reserved the Springfield Second Baptist Church for a very exciting event for the Springfield community. On Sunday, September 28, believers from many denominations will come together to celebrate the heritage we share as Christians. The evening will feature traditional hymns sung by choir and audience together, as well as orchestral pieces and other special musical selections.
Conductor Ron Spigelman has reserved the Springfield Symphony for the evening and will serve as conductor for this inspirational gathering. We are also excited that Steinway Artist Larry Dalton has agreed to arrange some of the music and will serve as the featured pianist for the evening. Sharon Wilkins, area choral conductor and Evangel University professor, will help organize and prepare the mass choir for the celebration. Having already received fifteen favorable responses from area church choirs and the support of five Senior Pastors who have agreed to help financially, we are now selecting the music and planning rehearsal schedules.
We will provide updates as this exciting program develops.
 Updated Rehearsal Information and Project Update
We are excited and pleased to report that we currently have over 20 churches committed to be a part of this great event.
Our first rehearsal was very exciting, with 60+ singers gathered in one accord! We still have room for more singers and time to learn the music. We want to encourage your church to send 12 to 15 of your best singers to join the mass choir. There is a cost of $5 per choir member to help defray the cost of the music.
Following is our rehearsal schedule:
- Saturday, August 23, 1:45 pm to 4 pm—Choir rehearsal at the Credo Arts Center
- Saturday, August 23, 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm—Auditions for solos at the Credo Arts Center
- Saturday, September 6, 10 am to noon—Choir rehearsal at the Credo Arts Center
- Saturday, September 27, 9 am to 11:30 am—Choir rehearsal at Springfield Second Baptist
- Sunday, September 28, 2 pm—Choir & orchestra rehearsal, followed by concert at 6:00 pm. We will organize a light dinner for the choir and orchestra before the performance.
If you have any choir members who have not registered and want to sing it is not too late for them to participate. Please contact the choir captain Lynette Farrand at hymnsing@gmail.com with their names and contact information. We are looking for a few soloists for the event, so please let your featured singers know about the August 23 audition.
