Cheryl and John Mark
both call Nebraska
home. After getting married in 1981, John Mark and Cheryl became
involved in First Baptist Ferguson, MO. John Mark finished his MBA
from Webster University during this time. Cheryl was the
financial aid
officer for Watterson College and John Mark was a credit analyst for
the Union Pacific Railroad. After receiving a call to international
Chinese missions, John Mark and Cheryl moved from the St. Louis area
to Fort Worth, Texas to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary. Cheryl worked for the University of Texas-Arlington as the
Undergraduate Accounting Advisor. As John Mark finished his masters
in religious education, Cheryl started working in a masters in
linguistics from the University of Texas-Arlington and the Sumner
Institute of Linguistics. After graduation, John Mark started working
for UTA also as the manager of the Perkins student loan program for
the business office. During all this activity, John Nathan Hansen was
born on 12/30/1985. Cheryl and John Mark served with churches in
Fort Worth, Mineral Wells, and a new church start in
Arlington, Texas.
Cheryl and John Mark were appointed to the International Mission Board
on 6/30/86 to serve in Taiwan Province, Republic of China. John Mark
served as the mission treasurer and the regional financial
consultant. Cheryl served as the Language and Orientation Coordinator
for the regional Chinese training center. The Hansens were under
appointment for 9 years. During this time Christine Elizabeth Hansen
was born in
Taipei,
Taiwan on 1/8/90.
In 1996 John Mark was asked to served as the first Director of
Missions for the newly formed Northeast Baptist Association in
Nebraska. They were appointed to the North American Mission Board of
the Southern Baptist Convention. The Hansens lived in Oakland
and Norfolk, Nebraska. They saw the number of works in the area grow
from 10 to 30 during the time that they worked in the area. These
included Anglo, Hispanic and Native American ministries. They lead
personal financial, senior adult and youth conferences in addition to
their other missions and ministry duties. John Mark had great fun
giving away about 20 cars a year to ministry needs during the
"Northeast" years!
On 6/30/04, Cheryl and John Mark were reappointed to the IMB to serve
as strategic coordinators to the Chinese in
Panama.
