2003 Events

December 2003

Amahl and the Night Visitors with Springfield Regional Opera -  December 19 & 20, 2003 at Juanita K Hammonds Hall for the Performing Arts. Messiah Project together with the Springfield Regional Opera  brought Amahl and the Night Visitors to the stage at “The Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts” December 19 and 20, 2003.  This joint venture was a wonderful opportunity for us to help produce a classic American opera which supports our mission to proclaim our Judeo-Christian heritage, and gives us an event to share with area school children. Over 2000 area students were able to attend a sold-out performance. We are considering making this an annual event.

A Glorious Christmas to Remember -
December 10 & 11, 2003 at The Grand Palace Theater, Branson, Missouri. Steinway artist Larry Dalton, Sinfonia Orchestra from Krakow Poland, Grand Old Gospel Choir, Messiah Chorale, Sonshine Dancers, plus many other professional singers and entertainers came together at the Grand Palace for “A Glorious Christmas to Remember.”  Messiah Project was pleased and honored to partner with the Grand Old Gospel Hour to bring this inspirational evening to Branson.

Nativity Scenes and Singing Christmas Tree - Messiah Project again brought nativity scenes all over Springfield, Missouri: South National Ave, area McDonalds, Redeemed Bookstore (across from CPO), James River Expressway (Highway 60), and other locations.  A special group of "international" nativity scenes featuring views of the Nativity from other cultural perspectives was part of Cornerstone Church's Christmas lights display.  In addition to the displays, a "singing" Christmas tree with different choirs from around the area sang carols Saturday evenings during December, complete with a firework display.

Fall 2003

Steve Rooks: Masters Dance Workshop - October 25, 2003, Springfield, Missouri Messiah Project presented our first dance workshop, featuring Mr. Stephen Rooks from Vassar College in New York.  Mr. Rooks is one of this nations most noted dancers and educators in dance.  Currently Resident Choreographer and Assistant Professor of Dance at Vassar College.  One of the found faculty members for the Dance Degree Program at Howard University.  Guest Instructor at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham Schools of Dance.  Mr. Rooks was also a principle dancer for Martha Graham Company from 1981 through 1991.

Summer 2003

The Psalms of Ascents Concert featuring the Humours - August 31, St. Agnes Cathedral, &  Sept 1, 2003,  Evangel University. Messiah Project had a wonderful opportunity to help an international chamber orchestra. The director is Jody Killingsworth, a local professional violinist who organized players from all over the USA and abroad to come to the Ozarks for a wonderful night of Psalms set to music. The previous summer this unique experience thrilled the audiences at a Westminister Presbyterian church in Springfield, Missouri. Quality is certainly central to the group's ministry, along with their vision to create new views of scripture through the arts.
